Join Earth Knowledge Allies
We are gathering on Discord to collectively take free virtual college-level courses about ecology and related subjects. The study group will honor accessibility as best as we can and focus on gaining knowledge on how to steward the lands we live on in better, more sustainable ways.

What is ecology?
Why should I join?
What should I expect?
Ecology is the study between living organisms, including humans, and the environment the organisms live on this Earth.
You want to learn more about our impact on the Earth, climate change, living more sustainably, and how to be a steward of the land.
Meetings 1-2 times a month where we work through a free college-level virtual course with other folks who believe in creating a better world.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to join?
Joining discord is free and all potential courses are free to take. Discord and the websites the courses are hosted on all require you to sign-up with free memberships. To join discord, please visit discord.com. The server admins will guide you into signing up for course websites as needed.
What will we learn together?
Our co-founder, Jen, has compiled a list of over 150 free virtual courses on ecology and related subjects, like biology, geology, political science, environmental studies, sustainability, science writing, religion and more. Please note that Jen will be taking the courses for the first time with other members of the study group. Members of the server are welcome to recommend free virtual courses they find online to be added to our list.
How do we choose which courses to take and when?
On Discord, we will nominate a course to take when we are nearing the end of the current course. Out of those nominations, we will all vote on which course to take next. The course with the most votes, is the course we will study the next round. No member is required to take a voted in course if they do not wish to.
What do we need to commit to in order to take the courses?
We honor autonomy when it comes to participation. For each course, we will have two concurring schedules. One will meet once a month for folks with fuller schedules or that need longer time to study. The other schedule will have meetings twice a month, for folks with more time and capacity to commit to studying. Members of the server can join meetings in either schedule at any point during the course or practice an individual schedule that works best for that member.
Additionally, we are assuming we are all coming to this study group from different levels of knowledge. While we will do our best to begin with courses that are more beginner-friendly, please know that these courses are typically taken at a college level. The courses are self-paced typically (this is dependent on the website where each course is hosted), written and spoken in English, with subtitles on any videos. From what we understand, most courses do not require books but you are welcome to supplement your learning experience with any other resources you find. Also feel free to share those resources with other members of the server!
Lastly, as these are virtual classes, you will need a device with internet access to take these courses. You will also need free memberships to Discord and the websites where the courses are hosted.
Why are you offering the Earth Knowledge Allies study group?
We are always brainstorming new ways to center our pillars: accessibility, food justice and land stewardship, in our offerings to community members. In late-stage capitalism and with the current U.S. administration (and all former U.S. administrations), we are committed more than ever to taking care of the people in our communities and the land we live on. Transplanted Collective aims to arm you with knowledge to do the same with the hope that you will take this to your communities and the land you live on as well.
Who is teaching us the courses?
Each course was designed, written, and/or taught by a specific person and hosted on a particular website. Collectively, we are creating the container to dive into these courses together. The co-founders of Transplanted Collective have not taken these courses in advance. We will be learning along with you. We assume, however, that we will all come into this with different levels and interests in our knowledge that we can share with each other along the way.
